Nychteri 2019 Argyros Estate

Experience the essence of Santorini with the Nychteri 2019 from Argyros Estate – a powerful, age-worthy white wine made from 100% Assyrtiko grapes sourced from some of the island's oldest vineyards (over 150 years old) in Pyrgos and Megalochori. This exceptional vintage is the result of meticulous selection, with the grapes harvested only about twenty days after the main harvest – for maximum concentration and complexity.

The wine is fermented and aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, followed by another twelve months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks. The result: a golden-yellow wine with a rich, full-bodied character. On the nose, intense aromas of citrus fruits, sea breeze, and delicate orange peel unfold. On the palate, the 2019 Nychteri impresses with concentrated notes of lime, green melon, and pear, underpinned by a pronounced minerality and a long, fresh finish with grapefruit nuances.

This dry white wine (13.8% vol) impresses with its perfect balance of power and elegance – despite its impressive structure, it remains consistently harmonious and refined. A delight even now, especially with robust dishes like grilled tuna, it reveals its full potential after a few years of aging and can easily be cellared for 10 to 15 years.

Food recommendation: Charcoal-grilled grouper, lamb in lemon sauce with wild herbs and fennel

Argyros Estate

The Argyros winery was founded in 1903, but the Argyros family has been involved in wine production for decades. Each generation has contributed to the development of Argyros wines on both fronts. Matthaios (Matthew) Argyros, the fourth generation of winemakers, has been at the helm of Estate Argyros since 2004. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the new winery and the acquisition of further vineyard land. His attention to detail and profound knowledge of viticulture on Santorini guarantee that the winery's future is in safe hands. Argyros winery is the largest private owner of vineyards on Santorini, and these vineyards are very old, even by Santorini standards. The average age of the vines is over 70 years, while the oldest plots on the estate are more than two centuries old.
