Matassa Cuvée Marguerite 2024
A luminous natural wine with a hazy orange hue and copper highlights. The nose offers aromas of citrus, elderflower, and muscat, evolving into notes of white tea, herbs, and spices. On the palate, it is fresh yet structured, with apricot, apple, fennel, and a saline minerality. Light in alcohol and dry on the finish, it is complex, vibrant, and effortlessly drinkable.

Matassa

Domaine Matassa was founded in the early 2000s by Tom Lubbe, a native South African and former cellar master at the renowned Domaine Gauby. Early on, he recognized the enormous potential of the wild, rugged landscape around Calce in the Roussillon region and acquired old, sometimes high-altitude vineyards with unique terroir. Instead of traditional winemaking techniques, Lubbe now pursues a radically purist and natural style: low alcohol, high tension on the palate, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, no fining, no filtration. His wines are precise, cool, vibrant, and full of energy – with impressive aging potential. But Lubbe's work extends far beyond mere winemaking. He is one of the most influential figures in the natural wine movement in Europe. Always in dialogue with the times, climate change, sustainability, and the deep connection between people, vines, and nature, his approach represents a conscious and responsible wine philosophy. His wines, crafted with minimal intervention, clear origin, and intense expressiveness, serve as role models for a new generation of winemakers worldwide who are forging new paths in viticulture. Domaine Matassa is today synonymous with the new, natural style of the South – characterized by character, authenticity, and visionary thinking.
