Tommy Ferriol from Domaine Matassa is a feather-light, juicy natural red wine from Roussillon, crafted from around 70% Syrah and 30% Muscat à Petit Grains. Formerly known as Brutal Rouge, this cuvée combines the aromatic intensity and floral lift of Muscat with the structure and depth of Syrah, resulting in a vibrant, low-alcohol Vin de Soif with around 10–10.5% alcohol.

In the glass, it shows a transparent garnet-red colour with ruby reflections that already hints at its lightness and freshness. The nose is immediately seductive, with aromas of strawberry and red forest berries, blackcurrant, sour cherry and a touch of blueberry, joined by rose petals, fresh herbs and a fine spicy note reminiscent of pepper and hops. On the palate, Tommy Ferriol is ultra-juicy and refreshing, with lively acidity, very fine tannins and a delicate, almost weightless texture that blurs the line between red and rosé, yet remains full of character and regional identity.

Vinified naturally, without filtration and with minimal intervention, this wine is best served slightly chilled and shines with Mediterranean tapas, grilled vegetables, lightly seasoned poultry or even tuna tataki. It is the perfect bottle for anyone who loves expressive, drinkable natural wines that combine aromatic flair, low alcohol and effortless drinkability.

Matassa

Domaine Matassa was founded in the early 2000s by Tom Lubbe, a native South African and former cellar master at the renowned Domaine Gauby. Early on, he recognized the enormous potential of the wild, rugged landscape around Calce in the Roussillon region and acquired old, sometimes high-altitude vineyards with unique terroir. Instead of traditional winemaking techniques, Lubbe now pursues a radically purist and natural style: low alcohol, high tension on the palate, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, no fining, no filtration. His wines are precise, cool, vibrant, and full of energy – with impressive aging potential. But Lubbe's work extends far beyond mere winemaking. He is one of the most influential figures in the natural wine movement in Europe. Always in dialogue with the times, climate change, sustainability, and the deep connection between people, vines, and nature, his approach represents a conscious and responsible wine philosophy. His wines, crafted with minimal intervention, clear origin, and intense expressiveness, serve as role models for a new generation of winemakers worldwide who are forging new paths in viticulture. Domaine Matassa is today synonymous with the new, natural style of the South – characterized by character, authenticity, and visionary thinking.
