The brothers Aristos and Stathis Spanos grew up in the region and have been involved in viticulture and wine production since they were children. In 1999 they met Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos, a local oenologist, and the first bottles of Tetramythos came onto the market that same year. In the following years, new vines were planted and in 2003 the production of the first bottles of wine began. Tetramythos is a boutique winery on the Peloponess, in Kalavryta and the vineyards are located between 600-1050m altitude. From the beginning, the vineyards have been cultivated organically and partly biodynamically. Panajotis the Winemaker is one of Greece's most talented and innovative winemakers. They have been experimenting many years, especially with natural wine. The result is simply overwhelming. Everything is stable and clean vinified. You can tell the tension, depth and character of the wines. Nothing seems artificial or embellished here. The retsina from the amphora in particular makes a big statement!
Mavro Kalavrytino natural 2022 ORGANIC
30-year-old vines at 850 m. Stored in old wooden barrels for seven months. A very rare grape variety. In the glass a medium ruby red colour. Complex and impressive on the nose. Cherry, animal notes, sour cherry and plum. Spicy and herbal notes of cinnamon, licorice, eucalyptus and bay leaf along with aromas of caramel. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with balanced acidity and soft tannins. juicy with rich red and black fruits paired with notes of cinnamon, herbs and coffee. Delicious, long-lasting aftertaste.
